Basements and Additions

Ductless for Basement Suites and Additions

A finished basement, a second unit or a rear addition often sits on the end of the ductwork, too cold in winter and stuffy in summer. A single-zone ductless heat pump gives that space its own heating and cooling and its own remote, without touching the rest of the house. In Mississauga that usually starts around $2,800 installed for one room.

Electrical

Electrical Panels in Older Mississauga Homes

Nearly 4 in 10 Mississauga homes (38%) date from 1980 or earlier, long before anyone planned for a heat pump. A heat pump needs its own 240-volt circuit, and some older panels are already full or close to their limit. We check yours at the free assessment. If it needs an upgrade, that work is done by a licensed electrical contractor under an Electrical Safety Authority permit, and you know about it before you approve a price.

Hybrid

Keep Your Furnace, Add a Heat Pump

About 16% of Mississauga homes were built between 2001 and 2010, and their original air conditioners are now past the usual 12 to 15 years. If your AC is due for replacement but the furnace is still sound, that is the ideal moment for a hybrid system: the heat pump handles summer cooling and does most of the winter heating, while the gas furnace covers the coldest days. You keep a backup heat source and burn less gas through spring and fall.

Rebates

Heat Pump Rebates in 2026

Ottawa's National Heat Pump Rebate was announced on October 8, 2026 and is aimed at cold-climate air source heat pumps, but applications have not opened and the details may still change. We will update this page when it opens. Until then, see our financing options.

Placement

Outdoor Units Beside Semis and Townhouses

On a semi or a townhouse lot, the outdoor unit often ends up close to a neighbour. Modern variable-speed units are quiet in normal running, but we still keep them away from bedroom windows, raise them on a stand or bracket so snow and meltwater can clear, and leave room for service. In a condo townhouse, get the corporation's approval for the location first.

Winter

Do Heat Pumps Work Through a Mississauga Winter?

Yes. The cold-climate models we install keep heating well below freezing, and our high-efficiency units are rated to -25°C. Every winter still brings a few cold snaps: on those days a hybrid system switches to the furnace automatically, and an all-electric system leans on its backup heat.

Common Questions

Heat Pump Questions From Mississauga Homeowners

What does a heat pump cost in Mississauga?
Ductless systems start at $2,800 installed and central heat pumps at $4,500, before HST. For a townhouse or semi, Good-level prices run from $3,500 for ductless to $7,000 for central.
Can I put a heat pump on my condo balcony?
Only if your condominium corporation allows it. Many have rules on outdoor units, so check your declaration first.
Will a heat pump replace my furnace?
It can, but many owners keep the furnace as backup in a hybrid setup. We help you weigh both.
Can I rent a heat pump?
Yes. A central heat pump rents for $54.95 a month with $0 upfront and repairs included. See rental plans.
Do I need a new electrical panel for a heat pump?
Not usually, though some older homes do. It is one of the things we check on the free visit, before any price.
What size heat pump does my home need?
We work it out with a load calculation. A typical Mississauga semi or townhouse of 1,000 to 1,800 sq ft is our usual starting point for a mid-sized system.
How loud is the outdoor unit?
Quiet in normal running on modern variable-speed models. Placement still matters, so we keep it away from bedroom windows where we can.
Is there a heat pump rebate right now?
Not yet. The federal rebate announced in October 2026 has not opened. We will update this page when it does.
Do you repair heat pumps too?
Yes, any brand, typically $400 to $1,200. See heat pump repair.
