Winter air in a heated home gets dry: static shocks, dry skin, a scratchy throat in the morning and gaps in wood floors. A whole-home humidifier mounts on your furnace and adds moisture to the air in every room. GT Home Services installs them across Brampton and the GTA.
Your price depends on the humidifier type and your furnace. You get it before any work starts.
๐ Call (647) 677-0037Cold outdoor air holds very little moisture. When that air leaks into your home and the furnace warms it up, its relative humidity drops sharply, because warm air can hold far more water than it has. With the furnace running from October to April, indoor air in a Brampton home can stay dry for months. A whole-home humidifier puts that moisture back through the ductwork, so every room benefits instead of just one.
Which one fits depends on your furnace, your ductwork and how dry your home gets. We recommend one at your free visit.
Health Canada recommends keeping indoor relative humidity between 30% and 50%. Below that the air feels dry; above it, condensation on cold windows can lead to mould. A whole-home humidifier runs on a humidistat, and in very cold weather the setting usually needs to come down so windows don't fog or frost.

A whole-home humidifier works with a ducted heat pump too, but the type matters. A heat pump sends out air that is warm rather than hot, and an evaporative humidifier adds less moisture to cooler air. That is why we often suggest a fan-powered or steam model for a heat pump or hybrid home, where a bypass unit might fall short. If you are planning a heat pump, it is worth choosing the humidifier at the same time.
Brampton's tap water is moderately hard, and every litre a humidifier evaporates leaves its minerals behind. On bypass and fan-powered units that shows up as a white crust on the water panel by the end of the season, which is why the panel is a yearly replacement. A steam humidifier collects the same minerals in its canister or tank, so it needs cleaning or a new canister on its own schedule.
Bypass and fan-powered humidifiers use a water panel that collects minerals from the water, so it needs replacing, usually once a year at the start of the heating season. With Brampton's moderately hard water, that yearly change is worth doing. We can replace the panel during a furnace tune-up.
Replacing your furnace is the easiest time to add a humidifier, since we are already working on the furnace and its ductwork. See furnace installation.
Dry-air season is the same across the GTA. We fit humidifiers wherever we work: see our service areas.
