A Navien tankless heater rents from $37.99 a month and heats water only when you open a tap, so it does not run out partway through a shower. It is a good fit for larger households or homes where the tank keeps running cold. We size it by the number of bathrooms, from the NPE-180 for 2 to 3 bathrooms up to the NPE-240 for 4 to 5. Tankless heaters need a yearly descaling flush, and that maintenance is included in the rental.

A tank water heater usually lasts 10 to 12 years. Renting spreads the cost into a monthly fee with repairs included, and you can buy the unit at any time. Buying a Bradford White tank starts at $2,111 installed and costs less over a long stay, but repairs after the warranty are yours. If you already rent and your monthly fee keeps climbing, read is your water heater rental a rip-off? and how to switch providers.
