Older Lennox models and the Signature Collection get the same care, whoever installed them.
Lennox sorts its furnaces into three lines, and the model number tells you which one you have. Models starting with ML belong to the Merit line, EL to the Elite line, and SL to the Dave Lennox Signature Collection. The ML196 and ML296 we install are Merit furnaces, and the EL297 is an Elite. Knowing the line helps us bring the right parts, since controls, blowers and gas valves differ between them.
Lennox backs its furnaces with a manufacturer parts warranty, and how long it lasts depends on the model and whether the furnace was registered. When a covered part fails, the part may be covered while the labour is not. Have the model and serial number ready, and we will help you check before we order parts.
| Service | Typical price |
|---|---|
| Repairing a Lennox, parts and labour | $350 to $950 |
| Yearly Lennox tune-up | $120 to $200 |
| A Lennox you rent from GT | Repairs covered by your plan |
These ranges come from our instant quote tool and are before HST. Where a Lennox part fails, the price depends on the part and your model, and a part still under Lennox warranty can bring it down. We price the repair after diagnosis, and you approve it before we start.
The rating plate inside the furnace, usually on the blower door or the inner cabinet wall, lists the model and serial number. The model number tells us a lot before we arrive. Take an ML296UH070 as an example:
| Part | Example | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Letters | ML | The line: ML is Merit, EL is Elite, SL is Signature |
| First digit | 2 | Heating stages: 1 is single-stage, 2 is two-stage |
| Next two digits | 96 | Efficiency (AFUE), here 96% |
| Two letters | UH | Airflow direction: UH is upflow or horizontal, DF is downflow |
| Three digits | 070 | Heat input, here 70,000 BTU per hour |
Send a photo of the rating plate when you book, and we can bring the parts most likely to be needed.
A single-stage Lennox such as the ML196 fires at full power every time it runs. Two-stage models such as the ML296 and EL297 have a gas valve with a low and a high setting, usually with a pressure switch for each stage, so some faults show up only on high fire, on the coldest days when the house needs the most heat. Many Lennox furnaces also use an ECM blower motor with its own electronics, which is tested differently from an older standard motor. Knowing which design you have tells our technician where to start.
An older Lennox facing a big repair bill can be the moment to upgrade instead. We show you both prices side by side so you can decide. See furnace installation, with the Lennox ML196 from $3,555 installed or from $43.99 a month to rent.
