Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

Who is GT Home Services?
A family-owned HVAC and water heater company based in Brampton, founded in 2017. We install, repair and rent furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, tank and tankless water heaters, water softeners and water filtration across Brampton, the GTA and Southern Ontario. More about us.
What areas do you serve?
We are based in Brampton and serve 34 towns, from Mississauga, Toronto and Vaughan to Hamilton, the Niagara Region, Barrie, Kitchener, London and Peterborough. See the full list on our service areas page, or call (647) 677-0037 to check your street.
What are your hours?
Any time, day or night, seven days a week, holidays included. Call (647) 677-0037.
What makes GT Home Services different?
Three things. Flat-rate pricing: we quote the full price before we start. Family-owned accountability: the owner is reachable by phone. And no upselling: we recommend only what your home needs, sized and priced correctly. We also offer rental plans from $19.95 a month, so every family can get reliable equipment.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. TSSA registration #000307842 covers the company, a TSSA G2-certified gas technician handles all of our gas work, and $5M of liability insurance covers every job.
Do you offer free estimates?
Yes. Estimates and in-home assessments are free with no obligation. We look at your home and your current system and give you a firm flat-rate price before any work begins.
Do you sell door-to-door?
No, never. Ontario bans unsolicited door-to-door sales of furnaces, air conditioners, water heaters and similar equipment. Only book with us by phone or through this website. Know your rights.
Can landlords and property managers use GT Home Services?
Yes. Give us the installation address and arrange for your tenant to be home during the install window, and we handle the rest. If you manage several properties, call us about preferred rates and priority scheduling.

Rental Plans

How does a rental plan work?
You pay nothing upfront, then a flat monthly fee that covers the equipment, the installation, every repair (parts and labour), a yearly maintenance visit and priority when you call. Rentals start at $21.99 a month for tank water heaters, $37.99 for tankless, $43.99 for furnaces, $44.95 for air conditioners and $54.95 for heat pumps, plus HST. See all rental plans.
Will my monthly price go up?
Your written agreement sets out whether and how the monthly price can change. If we adjust it, it is a small yearly amount, never a surprise. Some large rental companies raise rates sharply after an introductory period. We do not. Read your agreement before you sign, with us or anyone else.
How long is a rental contract?
Most agreements have a minimum of about a year. When it ends, you choose: keep renting, cancel, or buy the equipment. Your agreement states the exact term, and we do not use multi-decade lock-ins or big buyout penalties. See the full rental terms.
Can I buy the equipment after renting?
Yes, whenever you like. The buyout figure falls over time, so call us for today's number.
What happens if I move?
Two choices: the buyer of your home takes over the plan, or you buy the equipment out before closing. Either way, we need 30 days' notice.
Will you take away my old rental equipment?
Yes. We disconnect and remove the old unit and coordinate its return to your previous provider. Any buyout or exit fees come from that provider, not from us, and we charge no switching fee. Read how switching works.
Should I rent or buy?
Renting means no upfront cost, a fixed monthly fee, and repairs and maintenance included. Buying means you own the equipment, the manufacturer's warranty applies, and you may qualify for rebates. Compare the options on our financing and rebates page.

Installation

How long does an installation take?
Most home installations take one day: a furnace replacement about 3 to 5 hours, central air 4 to 6 hours, a ductless heat pump 4 to 6 hours, a tank water heater 2 to 3 hours and a tankless water heater 4 to 6 hours. If we find unusual ductwork, code upgrades or complex venting, we tell you before we start.
Do you offer same-day installation?
Often, yes, depending on technician and equipment availability. Emergency installs come first. Call (647) 677-0037 to check today's availability.
Is installation included in the price?
Yes. Whether you rent or buy, installation is included in the price we quote. There are no separate labour charges added at the end.
Can you install several systems in one visit?
Yes. If you are replacing a furnace, air conditioner and water heater together, we plan one visit with the right crew and equipment.
Do you clean up after the installation?
Yes. We remove our shoes, protect the work area and take away the packaging, the old equipment and any debris before we leave.

Repairs, Service and Warranty

What warranty do you provide?
Rentals: every repair is on us, parts and labour, for the life of the rental, and a unit we cannot fix gets replaced. Purchases: the full manufacturer's warranty applies, typically 5 to 10 years on major components, depending on the brand and model. Our installation work is also covered: if something we installed fails because of our workmanship, we fix it at no charge.
Do you repair equipment you did not install?
Yes. The brand does not matter: we fix Lennox, Carrier, Goodman, Trane, KeepRite, York, Daikin and more, and finding the fault costs nothing. See furnace, AC, heat pump and water heater repair.
How quickly do you respond to emergencies?
Emergency calls are our top priority, and we aim for a same-day visit for no-heat and no-cooling calls. Rental customers get priority scheduling. If you smell gas, leave the house first, then call Enbridge Gas at 1-866-763-5427 or 911 from outside.
Do you offer annual maintenance?
Yes, for every system, rented or owned. Regular maintenance helps prevent breakdowns and keeps equipment running efficiently. Rental plans include one maintenance visit a year.

Heating, Cooling and Water Heaters

What size furnace do I need?
As a rough starting point for Ontario homes: up to 1,500 sq ft, about 45,000 BTU; 1,500 to 2,500 sq ft, about 70,000 BTU; 2,500 to 3,500 sq ft, about 90,000 BTU. Insulation, windows, ceiling height and the age of your home all change the answer, so we do a proper load calculation before every install. See furnace installation.
Single-stage or two-stage furnace?
A single-stage furnace runs at full power every time it turns on. A two-stage furnace runs at about 65% on mild days and 100% in extreme cold, which means more even temperatures, quieter running and roughly 15 to 20% better efficiency, at a higher upfront price. For most Ontario homes, two-stage is worth it. We recommend one based on your home during the free assessment.
Is a heat pump worth it in Ontario?
Often, yes. A heat pump heats in winter and cools in summer, and cold-climate models are designed to work in temperatures as low as -30ยฐC. Electricity for heating often costs less than gas at current rates, and one system replaces both your furnace and air conditioner. A new federal heat pump rebate has also been announced. See heat pumps and rebates.
What is a ductless mini-split?
An outdoor unit connected to one or more wall-mounted indoor units, with no ductwork needed. It suits additions, garages, sunrooms, condos and older homes without ducts, or a single room that is always too hot or too cold. We are ductless specialists, with hundreds of mini-split installs across the GTA. See ductless mini-splits.
What size water heater do I need?
Roughly: a 40 gallon tank for 1 to 2 people, 50 gallons for 3 to 4 (the most common size in Ontario) and 60 gallons for 5 to 6 or heavy use. Tankless units are sized by flow rate instead. See tank and tankless water heaters.
Tank or tankless?
A tank costs less upfront and is simple to replace, but it keeps water hot around the clock. A tankless unit heats water only when you need it, so you never run out, and it can cut water heating costs by 30 to 40%, at a higher upfront price. For big families or a renovation, tankless is worth a look. We will give you an honest recommendation.
My water heater is leaking. What should I do?
Call us at (647) 677-0037. While you wait, turn off the cold water supply valve on top of the tank, set a gas unit to "pilot" or off, and switch off the breaker for an electric unit if there is a lot of water. Most leaking tanks need replacing, not repairing, and we can often get to you the same day and have a new unit in before the day is out. See water heater repair.
How long does a water heater last?
Tank water heaters last about 8 to 12 years on average. Hard water, common in much of Brampton, can cut that to 7 to 9 years. Tankless units can last 15 to 20 years with yearly descaling. If your tank is over 8 years old and showing rusty water or slow recovery, plan the replacement before it fails.

Commercial HVAC

Do you do commercial HVAC work?
Yes, for offices, plazas, restaurants, gyms, warehouses and multi-tenant buildings: rooftop units from about 3 to 25+ tons, tenant fit-outs and installs outside business hours. Maintenance contract clients get a guaranteed emergency response within 4 hours and typically save 20 to 30% on repairs. Details are on our commercial HVAC page.

Financing and Rebates

Can I pay monthly instead of all at once?
Yes, two ways: rent with $0 upfront and a flat monthly fee, or buy and finance the purchase with us, with the terms given alongside your quote. Toronto homeowners can also use the City's HELP loan. Compare them on our financing and rebates page.
Do government rebates apply to your installations?
Not many right now. A new federal National Heat Pump Rebate was announced in October 2026, but it has not opened yet, and we will post the details when it does. Two older programs, the Canada Greener Homes Grant and Enbridge HER+, stopped taking new applicants in February 2024. For current offers such as the Navien tankless rebate, see financing and rebates.
