Mississauga has 34,455 row houses, plus stacked and condo townhouses where the furnace sits in a tight closet or under the stairs. Those small spaces can make a repair slower, so tell us where the furnace is when you book. In a high-rise suite, warm air usually comes from a fan coil fed by the building's boilers; if your neighbours are cold too, start with your property manager. If your suite or townhouse has its own gas furnace, it is ours to fix.

Furnaces usually give 15 to 20 years of service. If yours is in that range and the repair is a big one, such as a heat exchanger or a control board on an old unit, compare the cost with a new furnace before you decide. About 30% of Mississauga households rent their home. Under the City's Adequate Temperature By-law, a landlord must keep every area of a rented unit at 20°C or warmer, measured 1.5 metres above the floor and 1 metre from outside walls, unless the lease makes heat the tenant's responsibility or the tenant controls the temperature. A portable heater cannot be the main source of heat. That makes a dead furnace in a rented house or basement unit urgent for both sides. Tenants should tell the landlord first; landlords and property managers can call us at any hour.
