The 2021 Census counted 103,915 occupied homes in Vaughan, and almost two in three are single-detached houses. That mix shapes most of the jobs we do here:

| Row house | 11,410 | 11% | Freehold and condo townhouses, where the furnace often shares a small room with the water heater |

Only 8% of Vaughan homes date from 1980 or earlier. The city grew fastest between 1981 and 2010, so many furnaces and air conditioners here are original builder equipment or its first replacement:
| Built | Homes | Share | What our technicians expect |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1980 or before | 7,895 | 8% | A furnace replaced at least twice, and ductwork first laid out for heating alone |
| 1981 to 1990 | 20,700 | 20% | A second or third furnace; any original central air is long gone |
| 1991 to 2000 | 23,080 | 22% | Replacement furnaces from the 2000s and 2010s, many now due again |
| 2001 to 2010 | 31,630 | 30% | Builder-installed furnaces and air conditioners, many of them still the originals |
| 2011 to 2021 | 20,595 | 20% | Newer systems whose faults are mostly sensors, drains and thermostat settings |

Vaughan's tap water starts in Lake Ontario, is treated by the City of Toronto and Peel Region, and is supplied to the City by York Region. The City measures its hardness at 125 mg/L, or 7.26 grains per gallon, and notes that hard water can leave scale on appliances. In a tank, that scale settles as sediment; in a tankless heater it coats the heat exchanger, which is why every rented tankless unit gets a descaling flush at its yearly visit. A water softener stops it at the source.

In a house with three or more bathrooms, a 50-gallon tank is usually the first thing to run out. A Navien tankless heater is sized by bathrooms instead of gallons, and you can rent it or buy it:

|---|---|---|---|
| NPE-180S2 | 2 to 3 | $37.99* | $3,111* |
| NPE-210S2 | 3 to 4 | $40.99* | $3,333* |
| NPE-240S2 | 4 to 5 | $43.99* | $3,555* |
| NPE-240A2, with recirculation | 4 to 5 | $49.99* | $3,888* |
*Includes standard installation only. Any extra work your home needs is quoted before we start.

Vaughan pays what Brampton pays: we keep one price list for every city we serve. Everything is before HST. Repair figures are typical ranges; installation figures are starting prices.
Replacing an air conditioner in Vaughan? Consider a heat pump in its place. It cools the same way all summer, then heats the house through spring, fall and most winter days, with your gas furnace taking over in deep cold. A central heat pump on your existing ducts costs from $4,500 installed, or $54.95 a month to rent. Where the ducts do not reach well, a ductless unit starts at $2,800. Our high-efficiency units carry a -25ยฐC rating. See heat pumps and ductless mini-splits.
