📞 Call (647) 677-0037About 30% of Vaughan homes were built between 2001 and 2010. If yours still has its original furnace, it is now 15 to 25 years old, past the 15 to 20 years most furnaces last. Another 42% were built between 1981 and 2000 and usually run on a replacement furnace that is getting on itself. The age of the house tells us where to start:
| Home built | Where we look first |
|---|---|
| 1980 or earlier | Leaky ducts and small returns, the gas valve, and how the furnace vents if the chimney is no longer used |
| 1981 to 2000 | The igniter and flame sensor on a second furnace, then its inducer motor and pressure switch |
| 2001 to 2010 | Control board, inducer and blower on an original builder furnace, plus a close look at the heat exchanger |
| 2011 and later | Condensate trap and drain lines, the flame sensor, and thermostat or Wi-Fi settings |

Single-detached houses make up 63% of Vaughan's homes, and in many of them one furnace pushes air up two storeys and down into a finished basement. That workload wears out the same few parts, so these are what we test first in a larger home:

Most modern furnaces have a small status light on the control board, visible through a window in the lower door. Count the flashes; the code chart is usually printed inside the door. Then check these, because any one of them can stop a furnace:
If you smell gas, leave the house, then call Enbridge Gas at 1-866-763-5427 once you are outside. If a carbon monoxide alarm goes off, get everyone out and call 911. When the house is safe, call us and we will find the cause. A furnace that keeps tripping its limit or rollout switch should stay off until a technician has seen it.

About 14% of Vaughan households rent. Vaughan's Vital Services By-law requires landlords to keep rented units at 21°C or warmer from September 15 to May 15, or to give the tenant a way to keep it there. A furnace that dies in a rented house is urgent for the landlord and the tenant alike. Tenants: tell your landlord first. Landlords and property managers: we take calls at any hour.
