Milton runs on two water sources. Part of the town gets treated Lake Ontario water from Halton's lake-based system, pumped to the Steeles Avenue water tower; the rest is supplied by groundwater from the Kelso well field, and Halton keeps the two apart. Halton's 2025 averages put the lake water at 126 mg/L of hardness and the well water at 318 mg/L. On the well supply, scale builds up quickly in tanks, tankless heat exchangers and humidifiers, so a softener earns its keep. Halton Region can confirm which supply serves your address.

89% of Milton homes are detached, semi-detached or row houses, most of them on ducted furnaces. When the builder air conditioner gives out, a central heat pump can go in its place: it cools all summer, heats through the shoulder seasons and much of the winter, and leaves the coldest days to the gas furnace. Expect $4,500 and up installed for a central system, or $54.95 monthly to rent; ductless heads for a basement or bonus room begin at $2,800. Our high-efficiency models carry a -25°C rating.
