📞 Call (647) 677-0037Builders put up 39% of Milton's homes from 2001 to 2010, and many of those houses still run the furnace they came with. At 15 to 25 years old, those furnaces have outlived the usual 15 to 20 year span. Where we start depends on the furnace in front of us:
| The furnace | What usually fails |
|---|---|
| Original, in a 2001 to 2010 house | Inducer motor, control board and blower motor, plus a close look at the heat exchanger |
| Original, in a 2011 to 2021 house | Pressure switch, flame sensor and the condensate trap, often still covered by the warranty |
| A replacement, in an older house | Igniter and flame sensor first, then the ducts and returns it was fitted to |

Row houses are 23% of Milton's homes. In a townhouse the furnace usually shares a small room with the water heater, and its plastic vent pipes leave through the back wall, sometimes just above a deck. Snow drifting against the deck, a blocked filter in a cramped rack, or a condensate line kinked behind the water heater will all stop the furnace. We check all three before anything else. In a condo townhouse, tell us about the corporation's rules for trades when you call.

About 34% of Milton homes were built in 2011 or later. A furnace that young may still carry the manufacturer's parts warranty, though some brands only honour it if it was registered. Read the model and serial number off the label inside the furnace door, and we will look up the coverage for the part that failed.

Get everyone out of the house first, then phone from outside. Gas smell: Enbridge Gas, 1-866-763-5427. Carbon monoxide alarm: 911. Once the house has been declared safe, we can find what caused it. A furnace that keeps tripping its rollout or high-limit switch should stay off until it has been checked.

A furnace-mounted humidifier runs water over a pad every time the furnace heats. On Milton's Kelso well supply, which Halton's 2025 averages put at 318 mg/L of hardness, that pad scales up quickly and the drain and solenoid valve can clog or leak. Replace the pad every season on well water, and call us if water is dripping near the furnace.

Fifteen years or older plus a cracked heat exchanger, a dead control board or the second big repair of the season: at that point a new furnace usually costs less over time, and we quote both side by side. Milton replacements start at $3,222 installed for a Midea MGV96, or $43.99 a month to rent. See new furnaces in Milton.
