Most of Etobicoke was built before 1981, and older furnaces fail in their own ways. We answer the phone 24/7, track down the fault, and quote one flat price before any work.
Typical ranges, not quotes, plus HST. We agree your price before the repair starts.
📞 Call (647) 677-003762% of Etobicoke homes were built in 1980 or earlier, so many furnaces here sit in basements laid out for very different equipment. The age of the house points us to the likely cause:
| Home built | Share | What we check first |
|---|---|---|
| 1960 or before | 29% | Venting into an old chimney, the gas valve and igniter on an ageing furnace, and cracks in the heat exchanger |
| 1961 to 1980 | 33% | Blower motor and capacitor, limit switches tripping on blocked returns, and the flame sensor |
| 1981 to 2000 | 16% | Inducer motor, pressure switch and control board on a replacement furnace |
| 2001 and later | 22% | The condensate drain, sensors and thermostat settings |

Many Etobicoke houses from the 1950s and 1960s are bungalows or back-splits with the furnace in an unfinished corner of the basement. Return air often comes from a single grille, and later renovations sometimes closed off ducts. If one end of the house runs cold, the furnace may be fine and the airflow is the problem. We check both and tell you plainly which needs the money.
Etobicoke has 5,980 apartments in duplexes, many of them basement units. When two households share one furnace, a breakdown leaves both without heat, and a single thermostat can leave one floor cold all winter. We repair the furnace first, then talk through options such as a second thermostat zone or a ductless unit for the suite.

About 40% of Etobicoke households rent. Under Toronto Municipal Code Chapter 497, a landlord who supplies the heat must keep every area of the unit at 21°C or warmer from October 1 to May 15, which turns a dead furnace in a rented house or basement suite into an urgent job. Tenants should tell the landlord first; if it is not fixed within 24 hours, the City asks tenants to call 311. Landlords and property managers can call us any time.

A furnace past 15 to 20 years, with a cracked heat exchanger or its second big repair this season, usually costs less to replace. New furnaces start at $3,222 installed, or $43.99 a month to rent, and we can give you both prices on the same visit. See furnace installation.
Smell gas? Get out first, then call Enbridge Gas at 1-866-763-5427 from outside. If the carbon monoxide alarm goes off, take everyone outside and call 911. A red tag from a gas inspector means the appliance must stay off until it is repaired or replaced; we can do either. Read what a red tag means for you.
