Caledon gets its water two ways. Bolton and the southern part of Caledon receive Lake Ontario water, the same source as Brampton, which Peel Region's South Peel report rates moderately hard at 120 to 130 mg/L. Alton, Caledon Village, Caledon East, Palgrave, Cheltenham and Inglewood run on Peel's own municipal wells. If your home is on a private well, have the water tested before you choose a tankless heater or a softener, because well water varies from one property to the next.

On many Caledon lots there is plenty of room to set a heat pump's outdoor unit well away from bedroom windows, raised on a stand above the snow. A central heat pump on your existing ducts starts at $4,500 installed, or $54.95 a month to rent, and works alongside your furnace; a one-room ductless unit starts at $2,800.
